The Curriculum:
Classically trained dancers are ready to accept the
challenges of all other dance forms. The Vaganova method of classical
ballet emphasizes precise technique, correct body placement, musicality
and expression. Training involves a carefully structured breakdown of
each movement. Young children may begin at age four in pre-ballet classes.
Academic ballet lessons are for students seven years old and up. The
recommended number of classes is based on the expected rate of development
and is the minimum needed to progress. Students should expect to spend
two or three years per level.
Ballet I 1 - 2 classes per week
Ballet II 2 - 3 classes per week
Ballet III 3 - 4 classes per week
Ballet IV 4 - 5 classes per week
Ballet V 6+ classes per week
Ballet VI 6+ classes per week
Electives: Dancers who have reached Ballet level
III may be encouraged to begin incorporating different electives into
their training. Pointe, Variations, Pilates, and Private lessons are
just a few of the different electives offered at different times of
the year.
Pre-Ballet: Specifically
designed for young children who are not yet ready for the more rigid
structure of Ballet I. Children learn basic ballet steps and positions.
Fun exercises and games place emphasis on musicality and counting, moving
together with other children, and memorizing steps and terms.
Adult Ballet: Offered to accommodate the beginner
as well as the advanced student, adult dancers can experience the joy
of movement as an alternative and exciting form of exercise.
Dress Code: Proper dress is imperative to learning. A neat appearance
will be reflected in your dancing. No t-shirts, baggy clothes or excessive
jewelry. All females must have hair pulled back and secured neatly in
a bun. Skirts may not be worn in technique classes.
Pre-Ballet: Pink leotard, pink ballet slippers, and white ankle
socks
(no tights necessary).
Males: Solid colored fitted t-shirt or leotard, black tights,
dance belt, and black or white ballet slippers.
Females: Solid colored leotard according to dress code, pink
